Buddy Miller & Jim Lauderdale On Mountain Stage

MOUNTAIN STAGE excerpt

April 22, 2013 The Nashville heavyweights had wanted to make an album together for years. In 2012, they finally had three days off at the same time and recorded Buddy & Jim, a collection of duets. Here, they play selections from the record and close with the first song they ever wrote together, "Hole in My Head," which was recorded by the Dixie Chicks.
Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale perform on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va. Friends for more than three decades, the two had been trying to record an album together for many years. Finally, in 2012, they managed to arrange three days off at the same time. The result isBuddy & Jim, a collection of duets. The two wrote original songs for the project and selected a few covers like "The Train That Carried My Gal From Town," which was originally popularized by West Virginian Frank Hutchison.

Here, Miller and Lauderdale close their set with "Hole in My Head," the first song they wrote together years ago; it was famously covered by the Dixie Chicks on the hit album Fly. Lauderdale plays acoustic guitar during this set, while Miller plays lead on his obscure Italian Wandre electric — a task he's routinely called upon to perform by Emmylou Harris and, most recently, Robert Plant. The two are joined by Nashville institution Fats Kaplin on fiddle and pedal-steel guitar.

Set List
"I Lost My Job Of Loving You"
"South In New Orleans"
"The Train That Carried My Gal From Town"
"I Want To Do Everything For You"
"Hole In My Head"

Quinn Sullivan, 14-Year-Old Blues Prodigy,
Impresses the Masters

'Players like him come along once in a lifetime,' says Buddy Guy

In the last few years, Guy has invited Sullivan onstage for several high-profile gigs, including sitting in with B.B. King, playing Connecticut's Gathering of the Vibes festival and joining Keith Richards and Clapton at Hubert Sumlin's memorial concert at the Apollo Theater. Sullivan even played on Guy's 2008 album, Skin Deep. Guy admits he's received some backlash: "[Some media] think you're not a blues player until you hit 100 years old," says Guy. "That's the crap I've been getting about Quinn: he's too young to play the blues, but that's what they said about me when I joined Muddy Waters' band! If you listen to him, you'll have a different attitude."

Great albums by The Feelies + band profile, website

The Feelies are an American rock band from Haledon, New Jersey

The Feelies rarely worked with outside producers and created shimmering soundscapes with multiple guitar layers that set them apart from most of the punk/New Wave bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
... their influence was felt on the indie rock scene. Their first album,Crazy Rhythms (Stiff Records, 1980) was cited by R.E.M. as a major influence. Several bands have in turn influenced the Feelies, including The Velvet Underground and Lou Reed. The novelist Rick Moody has also cited the band as one of his influences.

Panthers should shun sensible, take Tavon Austin

The offseason has been a testament to the status quo. The Panthers kept the head coach, promoted the quarterback coach to offensive coordinator and hired a general manager who made no changes to the personal department, or waves.
So make some.
Of course Carolina has greater needs than a receiver. But there’s not a roster in the NFL without flaws. Good teams compensate by imposing their strengths, their style of play. The more you score, the less fearsome your defense has to be. Defensive tackles will be available in the second round, too.
Imagine. The Panthers break huddle; Smith lines up left, Austin in the slot, Brandon LaFell right, Olsen inside.
What’s Newton doing?
He’s smiling.

Glennon’s game a perfect fit for the pocket

Gruden even compared Glennon, in size and arm strength, to Flacco, the Super Bowl MVP.

“Yeah, I was definitely happy to see him win it all,” Glennon said in an interview Monday.

Glennon started the past two seasons for the Wolfpack and threw for 4,031 yards (second in school history to Philip Rivers) and 31 touchdowns in 2012.
