Band manager Alex Brahl and producer Chris Goldsmith recruited guest musicians B.B. King, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Hubert Sumlin, Charlie Musselwhite, Ruthie Foster, Cedric Burnside and Steve "Lightnin' " Malcolm to join Mohr and the Monsters - bassist Squires, drummer Nevin and keyboardist Jeremy Lawton - to record Johnson songs of their choosing. Fifteen were cut, 10 of which made it onto the disc.
