So this post is not without it's small share of discussion, one of the major changes taking place for the producers and publishers of music is a consumption-based model rather than a one-time purchase model. Intrenet blowhard (and extremely wise analyst of music business culture) Bob Lefsetz can explain this way better & with way more passion than I can.
The demise of the one-time purchase model is due to the (to my mind) inevitable rise of unlimited streaming services such as Spotify. What that simultaneous demise/rise brings with it is a completly overwhelming range of choices. What that overwhelming range of choices brings with it is an increasing need for curation.
